WE/trans/FORM – On the Future of Building
The exhibition WE/trans/FORM at the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn addresses one of the most pressing questions of our time: What will the future of building look like?
In an era where architecture faces global challenges—from climate change and resource scarcity to the rapid evolution of digital technologies—this exhibition seeks to envision new paths for how we design and construct our built environment.
The projects on display encompass a broad spectrum of approaches and experiments, organized around three central themes:
1. Sustainable Materials and Systems
Exploring biomaterials, recycled resources, and innovations that enable closed-loop cycles of production and consumption. This section underscores the necessity of rethinking material origins and the ecological footprint of construction.
2. Digital Technologies and Automation
From 3D printing and robotics to artificial intelligence, the showcased works reveal how technology is not merely accelerating processes but also blurring the boundaries between concept and realization.
3. Human and Spatial Experience
Highlighting architectural practices that go beyond physical form, this segment focuses on space as a lived experience—a medium for social interaction, sensory engagement, and environmental awareness.
What sets WE/trans/FORM apart is its immersive curatorial approach. Rather than presenting architecture through drawings or models alone, visitors encounter interactive installations, spatial experiments, and full-scale prototypes. The exhibition invites direct participation, transforming speculative ideas into tangible experiences of the built future.
Ultimately, WE/trans/FORM is more than an architectural exhibition; it is a multidisciplinary dialogue where design, art, technology, and social responsibility intersect. For architects, designers, and researchers, it offers an inspiring platform to rethink how we will inhabit, construct, and transform our world in the years to come.
